Duo Sin Cuerdas: Tonia Makatsianou, piano – Kostas Zigeridis, bandoneon
After their first musical studies in the Greek countryside, their artistic concerns led them to Paris and Buenos Aires respectively, the two metropolises of tango, where they studied with the best living musicians of the genre.
In this concert project, the duo adapts their favourite pieces to two of the genre’s landmark instruments, wishing to build a melodic bridge from Argentina of the 30s to Europe of today. The flow of the concert is reminiscent of a radio show as it touches on different genres of tango and talks about the history behind the musical compositions.
Beginning with Pedro Laurenz’s tango, moving through key works by Horacio Salgan and Anibal Troilo and ending with iconic compositions by Astor Piazzolla, the history of 20th century Argentine music unfolds step by step, paso a paso…
