The charismatic pianist and composer Stathis Anninos creates musical paths that bridge the classical piano tradition with improvisation.The flow of the music results from both the expressive and the improvisational freedom that distinguishes him, through interesting admixtures that highlight a multifaceted musical temperament.
Stathis Anninos was born in Athens in 1980. He is a graduate of the Music School of Ilion and holds a Diploma in Piano and a Diploma in Fugue. After the Piano Diploma he studied with Takis Farazis. He has attended Jazz Ear Training courses with Vassilis Rakopoulos and big band orchestration with Gregory Botsi. As an active member he has played in seminars of Daniel Carter, Shai Maestro, Giorgos Hatzinikos, among others, and has participated as a musician in a seminar of Giotis Kiourchoglou. He has collaborated with Greek artists such as D. Savvopoulos, E. E. Vitali, M. Farantouri, N. Xydakis and L. Machairitsas. He has also collaborated with renowned musicians of the Greek scene such as D. Lynch, G. G. Kiourtsoglou, G. G. Kaloudis, X. Lambrakis, B. Karipis and V. Rakopoulos. He presents his own music (solo, trio, quartet) at festivals and venues in Greece, Cyprus and abroad such as Jeunesses Musicales (Paris), Petit Paris d’Athènes, Vrachon Theatre, Eleonas Festival, Unexpected Art Festival (Tinos), Fougaro Jazz Fest, Russian Cultural Centre of Nicosia and Pattihio Theatre of Limassol.
His music for solo piano has been performed at the Underground of the Athens Concert Hall. He also appeared in the 3rd Program of the National Radio of Greece presenting and recording his personal piano solo project. In 1998, together with his classmates from the music school, he published an album (Dreams of the World, syrtos publications), setting poems by M. Hadjidakis from the Mythology cycle.
He participated as a musician in the album of L. Machairitsas A hole in the weather… κύριε Mano (Minos Emi 2014), with lyrics and poems by M. Eleftheriou, but also in the double cd & dvd from the live recording and recording of the performance “Get up my soul give stream” with D. Savvopoulos and E. Vitalis at Kyttaro (Feelgood 2017). In 2018 he wrote the music for the short film No One by director Nikos Kouros. He is the creator of the experiential seminar The Music within us, approaching in a creative and interactive way issues of improvisation, harmonization, etc. Finally, he has taught music in all-day schools in Western Athens as an hourly teacher and piano at the National Conservatory of Papagos. Today he is a teacher in the modern piano, modern theory and free improvisation workshop of the Music Hub Athens
