2020 will be the fourth year this course has taken place. In 2017 we performed
Brahms “Requiem” with piano, in 2018 Beethoven’s “Mass in C” with orchestra and in
2019 "Songs of Despair and Consolation".
This year we present Sacred Meets Secular, a fascinating and delightful programme featuring a combination of sacred and secular music such as Partsongs by Franz Schubert, a setting of Shakespeare's Sonnets to Sundry Notes of Music by George Shearing and Jazz Mass by modern composer Steve Dobrogocz.
The course takes place in the tiny village of Horto, which lies in the heart of the Pelion, which forms a hook-like peninsula between the Pagasetic Gulf and the Aegean Sea. Rehearsals take place in an old olive store, and the concert at the end of the week is held in an open-air amphitheatre just yards from the sea. Rehearsals take into account the heat of the day, and leave plenty of time for eating, swimming, etc. On one day there is a boat excursion to nearby fishing villages, with opportunities to swim from the boat. Accommodation is in the village and meals are taken in the local hostelries.
Singers will need to book their travel and accommodation in good time. Three beach-side restaurants offer good, inexpensive food.
The course is run on behalf of the not-for-profit Angelinis-Hadjinikou Foundation by the amazingly energetic and efficient Nikos Adraskelas who will be pleased to answer any further questions you may have.
I do hope you will join us. It will be fun!
