    From Bach to de Falla: Aspects of the Sacred

    This concert in the Horto Festival is for Smaro yet another significant station along the way of her Reinventing guitar approach. Stunning guitar works by Bach, Scarlatti, Rak, Villa Lobos, Gubaidulina, Peyrot, Ohana, deFalla that explore the spiritual essence of music and are interpreted on exceptional guitars of Kertsopoulos Aesthetics. The concert is dedicated to George Hadjinikos.

    Greek guitar soloist, composer and pedagogue Smaro Gregoriadou attempts a redefinition of the classical guitar’s sound, technique and transcriptions through her innovative approach on interpretation called Reinventing Guitar Project and her pedagogic methodology called Inclusive Interpretation and Functional Technique. They have both generated enthusiastic response worldwide. As Neue Musik Zeitung mentions, “…she belongs to the Great of the New Era.” (MNZ Annual, Dec. 2021.)

    Smaro studied classical guitar and composition in Athens and London (awarded a Senior Exhibitioner Scholarship at Royal College of Music) with distinguished specialists of our time, including pianist-conductor George Hadjinikos, and guitarists George Kertsopoulos, Jesus Castro-Balbi, Paul Galbraith, Roberto Aussel, Carlos Bonnel; also composers George Sioras, Theodore Antoniou and Dinos Konstandinidis. She won numerous international music awards both for composition and solo guitar interpretation. She appeared as soloist in Europe, the USA, Australia, Canada, Russia, and China – and collaborated with major orchestras and chamber music groups in Greece and abroad. Her compositions have been premiered and commissioned by important artistic institutions and ensembles worldwide. She is a member of the Greek ISCM or Greek Composers Union. Her highly acclaimed discography has been released by the American label DELOS. She is founder and director of Reinventing Guitar Editions.
