The Horto Summer Orchestral Academy is a combination of the Open Orchestra seminars and the Arsis Conducting Seminar. The Academy is designed for student conductors plus all the symphony orchestra instrument players. Within its framework young musicians will have the opportunity to actively participate in the preparation and presentation of two demanding symphony concerts: Prokofiev’s "Peter and the Wolf" and Tchaikovsky’s "The Nutcracker".
Apart from the technical and interpretational problems a lot of emphasis will be placed on matters of cooperation and group spirit. The general supervisor is Anastasios Strikos who will colaborate with experienced music teachers. The latter will be supervising and preparing sections of the orchestra. "The Nutcracker" will be conducted by the student conductors whereas "Peter and the Wolf" will be conducted by Anastasios Strikos.
Interested musicians must fill in the application form (please find it here) by no later than 28 April 2018.
The orchestra players should be graduates, certificate holders or students of musical institutions provided they supply a letter of recommendation by their tutors.
The works will be Prokoviev’s "Peter and the Wolf" and Tchaikovsky’s "The Nutcracker" (a selection from the suites op. 71).
Eight actively participating conductors will be accepted. The announcement of the selected applicants will be made within the first ten days of May. The basic criteria for the selection will be the level of studies and the date of application. In case of oversubscription some video of the applicant’s work will be requested.
Every participant will join a daily class with piano accompaniment and daily rehearsals with the orchestra. He/she will conduct a section of the concert in the final performance.
We invite the following numbers of orchestra instrument players.
